AI Chatbot Agent for WhatsApp
Drop an AI step into any flow and let ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or DeepSeek answer your customers on WhatsApp — using your own instructions, your own API key, and zero code.
Smart Replies for Questions Your Menus Can't Predict
Buttons and keyword menus handle the common paths. The AI Chatbot Agent handles everything else: free-text questions about pricing, products, policies, or bookings, answered instantly in natural language.
Write a system prompt that describes your business and tone, pick a provider, and the agent replies to the customer automatically. The answer is also saved as a flow variable so you can log it or post it to your CRM.

How the AI Agent Works, Step by Step
No technical background needed. Here is exactly what happens when a customer messages you and how to get great answers.
What is the AI Chatbot Agent?
It is one step (a "node") inside the Wabiss Flow Builder. When a conversation reaches this step, Wabiss sends the customer's message together with your instructions to the AI model you chose. The AI writes a reply in natural language, and Wabiss delivers it to the customer on WhatsApp.
Think of it as a smart assistant who has read your instructions and answers anything you did not cover with a button or menu.
What happens when a customer sends a message
- The customer sends a message to your WhatsApp number (Meta Cloud API or Web QR).
- Your flow starts or continues, and reaches the AI Agent step.
- Wabiss sends your system prompt plus the customer's latest message to the AI provider.
- The AI's answer is delivered to the customer automatically and also saved in the
{{aiResponse}}variable. - The flow continues to the next step — for example, logging the conversation in Google Sheets or offering a "Talk to a human" button.
Writing a good system prompt
The system prompt is your instruction sheet for the AI. The more specific it is, the better the answers. Include who you are, what you sell, your prices or policies, your tone, and what the AI should do when it does not know something.
Choosing an AI provider
You can pick a different provider for each flow. All of them work the same way inside Wabiss — the difference is in answer style, speed, and the price the provider charges you.
- OpenAI (GPT): a popular all-rounder. Default model:
gpt-4o-mini. - Anthropic Claude: known for careful, well-written answers.
- Google Gemini: fast responses, with automatic fallback to other Gemini models if one is busy.
- DeepSeek: a low-cost option for high message volumes.
- Custom endpoint: any service that follows the OpenAI chat format, including self-hosted models.
What does it cost?
The AI Agent step is part of the Flow Builder, so there is no extra Wabiss fee for using it. You use your own API key from the AI provider, and the provider bills you directly for the AI usage. Your normal Wabiss message charges apply to the WhatsApp reply that is sent.
What if the AI provider has a problem?
Wabiss retries automatically and, for Claude and Gemini, falls back to other models if the first one is unavailable. If the AI still cannot answer (for example, your key is invalid or out of credit), no error message is sent to your customer. The error is stored in the response variable so you can spot it while testing.
Good to know
Each AI reply is generated from your system prompt and the customer's most recent message. To give the AI more context, put the important facts in your prompt, or include variables you collected earlier in the flow (such as {{leadName}} or an order number) inside the prompt text.
The optional User Message Input field lets you change what is sent to the AI — for example, combining the customer's question with details captured earlier in the flow.
How Businesses Use the AI Agent
AI Agent Questions, Answered
Yes — for businesses. From 15 January 2026, Meta stopped AI companies from offering general-purpose assistants (like ChatGPT) through the WhatsApp Business API. Businesses using AI to support their own customers — answering product questions, helping with orders, booking appointments — are still allowed. That is exactly how the Wabiss AI Agent works: it answers questions about your business, using your instructions.
No. You drag the AI Agent step onto the flow canvas, choose a provider from a dropdown, paste your API key, and type your instructions in plain language.
Create an account with the AI provider you want (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI Studio, or DeepSeek) and generate a key in their developer dashboard. Copy it into the AI Agent step. Keep your key private, just like a password.
Yes. As soon as the AI writes an answer, Wabiss sends it to the customer — no manual approval needed. The same answer is kept in {{aiResponse}} so later steps can log it or act on it.
Yes. Add a Live Agent Handoff step (for example, when the customer types AGENT). The bot pauses for that contact and your team is alerted in the Live Chat dashboard to take over.
Yes. Flows, including the AI Agent step, run on both connection types.
Any AI model can occasionally give an incorrect answer. You reduce this by writing a clear prompt with your real facts, telling the AI to say "I'll connect you with our team" when unsure, and adding a handoff option for sensitive topics.
