How WhatsApp Business API Pricing Works in India
The essentials in plain language, so you can budget with confidence.
You pay per delivered template message
Since 1 July 2025, Meta charges for each template message that is delivered, instead of the old 24-hour "conversation" pricing. The price depends on the template's category and the country of the person receiving it.
The three categories
- Marketing: promotions, offers, product launches, re-engagement. The most expensive category.
- Utility: updates about something the customer did — order confirmations, shipping, payment reminders, appointment confirmations.
- Authentication: one-time passwords and login verification codes.
What's free
- Customer-service replies: when a customer messages you, you can reply with normal (non-template) messages free for 24 hours.
- Utility templates inside that window are also free.
- Click-to-WhatsApp ads: chats that start from these ads open a 72-hour window where all your messages are free.
GST and INR billing
18% GST applies to Meta's charges for Indian businesses. Meta introduced INR billing for India in January 2026, and eligible businesses must move their WhatsApp accounts to INR by 31 December 2026.
Platform fees on top
