The Complete Meta WhatsApp Green Tick Verification Guide: Requirements & Process

By Wabiss Engineering Team • 5 min read • Updated October 2026

The official Green Tick badge (Official Business Account / OBA) on WhatsApp signals instant authenticity and trustworthiness to your customers. Your brand name appears directly at the top of the chat even if the customer has not saved your number in their address book.

1. Prerequisites: What Meta Requires Before Applying

Before you can apply for an Official Business Account, your business must satisfy four strict baseline requirements:

  1. Official Meta Cloud API (WABA): You cannot get a Green Tick on a standard WhatsApp Web QR or WhatsApp Business consumer app. It must be an official WABA instance.
  2. Verified Meta Business Manager: Your Facebook Business Manager must have completed company verification (GSTIN certificate, Incorporation documents, and active business bank statement).
  3. Two-Step Verification Enabled: 2FA PIN must be active on your WhatsApp phone number.
  4. Tier 2 Messaging Limit: Your channel must be approved to send at least 10,000 messages per day with a "Good" or "Medium" quality rating.

2. The Notability Factor: What Meta Evaluates

Notability is the #1 reason applications are approved or rejected. Meta defines a notable business as one representing a well-known brand, frequently searched in news media.

  • Meta requires 3 to 5 organic news articles mentioning your brand in reputable national publications (e.g. YourStory, Economic Times, LiveMint, Forbes). Paid PR and sponsored content are typically filtered out.
  • Active social media profiles with substantial followings and verified badges (Instagram / Facebook / Twitter).
  • A professional top-level domain website with active SSL and clear business disclosures.

3. Step-by-Step Submission Process

  1. Log into Meta Business Manager > WhatsApp Manager > Phone Numbers.
  2. Click on your phone number details > Settings > Profile.
  3. Click "Submit Request for Official Business Account".
  4. Fill out your legal entity name, website URL, and attach 3 to 5 media news citations.
  5. Submit. Meta typically reviews decisions within 2 to 4 business days.

What if Your Application is Rejected?

Rejection does not suspend your messaging abilities. You can continue sending Meta Cloud API broadcasts normally with your phone number and business profile. Meta allows you to re-apply after 30 days once you accumulate additional organic press coverage.
